17.0 Conclusions.
When the GPW jeep was inspected after it was assembled, it was asigned to a Ford test driver for a five mile run around a 1/2 mile circular track.
The jeep was drived at various speeds in all gears and all defects, if any, were noted. After any defects were remedied, the vehicles were turned over to the US Ordnance Department Inspetors. The Inspectors drove the jeep for 2 - 2-1/2miles, then up to a ramp where the undercarriage could be inspected. If no defects were found, the jeeps were run through a wash rack, dried, and drive through the "screen room" for the radio surpression test, at the Lincoln Plant. Vehicles which successfully passed the radio noise test were to be marked with the blue "S" on the cowl. The jeepwas then stamped by the Government Inspector and a final coat of OD enamel was applied & dried with infra-red lamps. The paint was inspected and the US registration number was applied using "sticky-back" stencils. At this point the vehicle was ready for shipping or potentially for disassembly and crating.
